Words have the power to create

January 6, 2013 — 12 Comments

When God created the world, the Bible says that he spoke it into existence.  Why do you think God used words to create the universe?  With all of his power, why did God use language to create?

God said that man was “made in his own image.” We are the only creatures on this planet that can create with communication.

Your words literally make things happen.  Your words have the power to create or destroy.  Words can build up or tear down.

Building up & Tearing Down

Be intentional about speaking positive power into the lives of others.  Change your wife’s life by just telling her you believe in her.

Guard your spirit from harsh words.

Ephesians 4:29 “Do not let unwholesome talk come out of your mouth, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs.”

Speak without Complaining and Arguing

Complaining Depletes Energy.

  • Complainers suck the life out of important movements.
  • Use the energy it takes to complain, to make a change.
  • Stop complaining by being thankful for what you have.

Arguing is a control issue.

  • God is in control.
  • So, there is not much sense in arguing.
  • Ask more questions, and increase your communication.
  • Questions led to resolutions.

Philippians 2:14 “Do everything without complaining or arguing.”

Speak as Though It Is

Make a proclamation for good things in your life.  Literally speak into into existence as though it is a reality.

Job 22:28 “When you declare a thing it is established for you; so light will shine on your ways.”

Ask God to make what is good come true.  This is not about manipulation or control, this is about trusting God.

2nd Corinthians 12:10 “Let the weak say, I AM STRONG.”

Prayer is believing in a God that is all powerful.

2nd Corinthians 4:11 “I believe, therefor, I have spoken.”

This is another message that is inspired by Pastor Randy Phillips.  I am proud to say he is my spiritual leader at my church, LifeAustin.  Listen to his amazing interview on on Succeeding HERE.

Questions:   What words hold power for you?

When has power been spoken into your life?

The Bible says in the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God, and the Word was God, and the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us. At the Tower of Babel the whole earth was of one language, and one speech. God confound the language, that they might not understand one another’s language and scattered them all over the earth. God spoke verbably with power to man, because it was his way of fellow communication, that I feel God totally enjoyed until the serpent also began to speak evil into the heart of Eve. As time progressed God began to speak to us thru His Word the Bible. He no longer verbally speaks audibly, but thru the reading of His Word, and in His will God shows us the truth. Power was spoken into my life, the day God saved my soul from a devil’s hell. One cannot have God’s power without salvation. I thank God for that day, and the days I’ve seen other souls saved. The words that hold power for me is reading, praying and expecting by faith to see God’s work at hand. Yes, questions lead to resolutions, but a lot of people are mis-lead by not asking questions that are out of character. But, anyway I leave you with this, John 14:27-30 Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you.Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. Ye have heard how I said unto you, I go away and come again unto you. If ye loved me ye would rejoice, because i said, I go unto the Father: for my Father is greater than I. And now I have told you before it come to pass, that, when it is come to pass ye might believe. Hereafter I will not talk much with you: for the prince of this world cometh, and hath nothing in me.

I agree! Power does get spoken into our life when Jesus comes in. Love you Mom!

One of the most powerful phrases for me is from Hebrews where it states that we can approach God boldly. Imagine that…us, mere creatures of creation – sinful, selfish and often “stupid” creatures can approach the throne of the all powerful God. We can only do this through the finished work of the Lord Jesus Christ. It is only in Him that I can dare approach such a Holy God. I meditate on that so often – how I am given access to the King – and not crawling in on my belly – but with boldness! How great is His grace. How pleased He is with the sacrifice of His Son. How powerful is Christ’s shed blood that I can make my requests known.
As to words that were spoken with power and peace to me are two: “God knows”. It was a simple statement made to me after a 10 minute rant on my part of everything going wrong in my life and how no one seems to understand the situation. “God knows”. I try to remember this and to pass it on. We may not know how things are going to work out or end – but God knows. We may be hanging on by our fingernails – emotionally, financially, or spritually – it may be hidden to others – but God knows. Our hearts are breaking, our health failing, our family falling apart…God knows. Blessed be the Name of the Lord!! Nothing is a surprise to God, nor is He wringing His hands in worry – He knows!

I agree! Words are SO powerful.

They can build us up — and tear us down. I try SO hard to think before I open my mouth as it’s my goal to build people up and encourage them.

The Bible is FULL of great passages. Proverbs is probably my favorite. There are so many lessons to be learned in that book.

I appreciated you mentioning gratitude. I think we could all do a better job of remembering how very blessed we are.

    Have a great day!

Michael – When I don’t like “me,” it’s because I have stopped saying thank you to other people. Isn’t it amazing how that works? Not rhetorical, isn’t it amazing! It blows my mind that God made us that way. Be humble, be thankful, be more joyful. Thanks for sharing brother!

What we think and what we say have tremendous potential to move us forward or hold us back. I have to force myself to speak good and positive. I have seen the positive benefits that come when I speak life. Great points Todd.

I also have to force myself to think positive. I can get really negative if I don’t watch myself closely. Thanks for sharing!

Words are certainly powerful, especially when they’re God’s Words. I think that we need to make a distinction between what happens when God talks and what happens when we talk. Of course God can create with his words because he is God and he is all powerful. On the other hand we can’t “create” with our words but we can influence, hurt, encourage, convince and so on. Those things are also very powerful but they are also very different than creating.

Rather than simply focusing on making my speech “positive”. I try to focus on making my words truthful and loving. Even if you look at the things Jesus said you will find that they weren’t always “positive”. He called people “white washed walls” and “tombs full of dead men’s bones”. His words, however were always truthful, honest and helpful.

Sometimes when a person focuses too much on being “positive” it results in a sacrifice of honesty. We need to be intentional about what we say because it influences how we think and how others think. We need to be honest and loving at the same time.

Caleb – great points! It is a hard balance of not crushing the spirit, and still being truthful. And, I do not believe in in crushing or nursing (milk feeding) adults.

Yes, it does take wisdom and I’d say that we probably should err on the positive side of things.

          Agreed!
