Jul 29, 2025 | The $100 Million Mindset Episode 16

Dear Reader,

In a world where everyone seems to be chasing the biggest exit, Gus Antos is staying put.

Not because he hasn’t been offered life-changing money. He has. More than once.

Not because he lacks ambition. Milestone is closing in on $200 million.

But because his why is anchored in something deeper.

After the show, I called Gus. I had to. The words he said on the show were in my heart. I wanted to go a little deeper with him.

That call has stayed with me. I won’t tell you all the things we spoke about, but I will give you this…

“Todd, there’s no place in the Bible that a man is called to store up riches on earth. There’s also no place in the Bible that says a man is supposed to retire.” – Gus Antos.

Gus doesn’t believe the goal of business is retirement or riches. He believes we’re here to serve people. Build them. Lead them. And if you listen closely, you’ll hear a man who is not trying to impress you with his success—but to challenge you with his convictions.

Gus knows that if he sold Milestone, he would lose his biggest vehicle for influence.

He runs a people-first company in the truest sense. Culture isn’t a slogan but a system. Radical candor and unbelievable trust aren’t theories but daily habits. Even the guy who quit to start his own shop got a party and a blessing on the way out.

You don’t throw your future competition a party and give them a donation on the way out if your mission isn’t people.

I’m going to be honest here, Dear Reader, this one is a challenge for me, yet I see the power in it. Gus isn’t wasting time feeling hurt. He is doing what he feels is right. He is building friendships, not making an enemy.

  • Gus doesn’t outsource his soul.
  • He doesn’t scale at the cost of his values.
  • He stays local. He stays involved.

And he stays true to the thing he built from $19,000 a year to one of the most admired companies in the trades.

You’ll hear the story of near-bankruptcy, slow growth, and the kind of leadership that forms in the fire. You’ll also hear how Gus views his product—not as HVAC units or garage doors, but as people. Human beings that must be cared for and developed with intention.

This episode is a clinic in scaling without compromise, in faith-driven clarity, and in the kind of mindset that money can’t buy.

“Success doesn’t have to cost you your soul.” – Gus Antos

Episode Chapters & Summary

From AG Student of the Year to $150M CEO

“We come in, we work hard, we try to take care of people, and we'll see where that road takes us.”

Gus shares his unexpected journey into the trades—and how his dream was never about money. It was about building a business where people actually wanted to show up.

Key Takeaways:

  • • Success doesn't start with strategy—it starts with purpose
  • • You're probably closer than you think if you don't give up
  • • Your business is built on values long before it's built on revenue

Suffering Through the First 5 Years

“It was bad, man. But it teaches you a lot going through stuff like that.”

Gus opens up about Milestone's early financial struggles, their commitment to integrity, and the painful grind it took to survive near bankruptcy while paying off debt.

Key Takeaways:

  • • You can't fake belief—borrow it until you build it
  • • Hard seasons reveal what actually matters to you
  • • Growth comes when you care more about people than profit

Culture, Candor, and the Feedback Loop

“It's literally impossible for you to offend me. I just want to know the truth.”

At Milestone, trust means saying what needs to be said—especially when it's hard. Gus breaks down how feedback, honesty, and radical candor drive growth.

Key Takeaways:

  • • Radical candor only works when trust is real
  • • Feedback isn't an attack—it's a gift
  • • The goal is never perfection—it's alignment

Impact-Driven Leadership That Lasts

“If I got a job somewhere else tomorrow, I'd still ask: Who can I serve here?”

Gus shares how Milestone's internal leadership academy trains managers like technicians—with precision, clarity, and purpose. Because your 'product' is a person.

Key Takeaways:

  • • Train leaders with the same rigor you train techs
  • • Transitioning people out well is just as important
  • • Care shouldn't stop when someone leaves the company

Why Growth Without Soul Isn't Worth It

“I didn't start this company to make the most money—I started it to change lives.”

Gus explains why he turned down private equity, how he leads with faith, and why Milestone stays local. Scaling with soul takes intention, sacrifice, and clarity.

Key Takeaways:

  • • Culture isn't a system—it's a reflection of your values
  • • Clarity in your 'why' prevents chaos in your growth
  • • You don't have to sell out to succeed
