Apr 29, 2025 | The $100 Million Mindset Episode 3

Dear Reader,

Wyatt led his $250,000 electrical business to a $500 million multi-trade giant by 2025.

I met Wyatt in 2004. I was teaching a service and sales class in St. Louis for Success Academy.

Wyatt was always the first in the room. He entered, and his men followed.

I knew immediately that I liked Wyatt. He is so kind. He works so hard. And he’s brave.

At times, Wyatt would stumble over his words in role-play when he got nervous – but he never quit. I admire that about a person. Do you know how hard it is to get in front of others and face your fear of public speaking? I do. (I kind of do that for a living.)

What I didn’t know about Wyatt was that he had little money to invest in his company – but he was betting it all.

It wasn’t until after Wyatt was wildly successful that he told me, “I shared a room with 3 technicians during that class. Two had twin beds. One had the couch. I had the cot.” He also drove from Utah to St. Louis because he couldn’t afford the flights.

When a man or a woman wants something badly enough – and is willing to suffer the pain today that it takes to make it – then tomorrow they will live a life like no one else.

Wyatt, I’m so happy for you. You deserve all that you have worked to achieve.

Episode Chapters & Summary

Humble Beginnings and Early Influences

“Get a trade and you'll never be idle.”

Alan reflects on his father's advice and how growing up in Dublin shaped his values. Wyatt shares how his father, despite warning him to stay out of the trades, was the one who ultimately brought him in.

Wyatt took a summer job working with his dad, quickly learning the hands-on nature of the business, the financial struggles of being a small operator, and how early jobsite experiences left lasting lessons.

Those humble beginnings fueled his desire to change the future of tradespeople—starting with himself.

Key Takeaways:

Foundational beliefs are often formed in childhood struggle.

Early exposure to business challenges fuels future vision.

Trade careers are shaped by both grit and opportunity.

The Turning Point: Training, Mindset, and Mentorship

“Empty your wallet into your mind, and your mind will fill your wallet.”

Wyatt credits Todd's training programs and immersive leadership style for unlocking a smarter approach to growth.

He didn't just send employees to class—he joined them, role-played beside them, and led from the front.

This built culture, alignment, and a belief system that transformed both performance and retention.

Key Takeaways:

Leadership by example multiplies buy-in.

Training isn't a cost—it's an investment.

Mindset determines momentum.

Scaling with Strategy: Adding HVAC and Plumbing

“Why aren't you doing air conditioning?”

Todd's simple question changed everything. Wyatt realized that adding HVAC could unlock higher tickets, faster sales cycles, and broader market reach.

What followed was a deliberate expansion: finding foundational people, weathering the recession, and betting on himself and his team.

The results? Explosive growth—built on service systems, training, and strategic hires.

Key Takeaways:

One great question can reshape your entire business.

Trade expansion requires the right people, not just the right plan.

Foundations matter more than shortcuts.

From Grit to Systems: Building an Organization

“Are we going to keep swinging the pick, or stop before we strike gold?”

Alan and Todd highlight Wyatt's overwhelming diligence—sharing hotel rooms, driving to trainings, sacrificing comfort for vision.

The entire company was built on commitment, not convenience.

Wyatt shares how he identified talent, invested in people, and held high standards for himself and others—even family.

Key Takeaways:

Diligence beats talent when talent quits early.

Culture is built by doing the hard things together.

True leadership is equal parts expectation and empathy.

The Power of Vulnerability and Growth

“The more I give, the more comes back to me.”

Wyatt and Alan talk about being underestimated—and how vulnerability isn't weakness, but strength in action.

From stuttering during role-play to confidently presenting to teams and investors, Wyatt's journey models authentic growth.

Their mutual respect for tradespeople, and refusal to let ego lead, creates a powerful example of grounded leadership.

Key Takeaways:

Vulnerability builds trust across every level of business.

Real leaders don't fake perfection—they model progress.

Giving creates a return you can't measure in spreadsheets.

Legacy Through Leadership

“You're changing family trees, Wyatt.”

With over 30 locations and a half-billion in revenue, Wyatt's focus has shifted to empowering others—through ownership, opportunity, and mentorship.

From hiring brilliant operators to investing in personal development, he's building a business designed to outlast him.

He now spends more time with family, including grandkids, while still guiding the group's vision and culture.

Key Takeaways:

Legacy is about empowering others to lead.

Ownership creates pride, accountability, and generational wealth.

Your greatest success is measured by who you've lifted up.
